[EVENT] Beelingua’s Got Talent – December 6, 2024
On December 6, 2024, BINUS University’s Digital Language Learning Center (DLLC) hosted an exciting event, Beelingua’s Got Talent, at LKC Hall, BINUS Anggrek campus. This competition drew participants from across cities, showcasing the remarkable communication and public speaking skills of BINUS students. With participants from Jakarta, Bandung, and Malang, the event featured a blend of onsite and online presentations, reflecting the university’s commitment to inclusivity and the digital transformation of learning experiences.
The event aimed to highlight and nurture the talents of students in three distinct categories: Ted-talk, Quickfire Talk, and Storytelling. Each category allowed participants to display their expertise and creativity while engaging the audience with powerful and thought-provoking performances.
The first segment, the Ted-talk, was designed to challenge students to present in-depth, well-researched topics in a manner that was both informative and inspiring. The presentations covered a wide array of subjects, from technology and innovation to social issues and personal experiences. Participants were given the opportunity to share their insights and opinions in a structured format, where they demonstrated not only their research and analytical abilities but also their talent for captivating an audience. The Ted-talks were intellectually stimulating and gave the audience a glimpse into the thoughtful minds of BINUS students.
Next was the Quickfire Talk, which tested participants’ ability to speak spontaneously and persuasively. In this segment, contestants were required to deliver a compelling short presentation on a given topic within a very short amount of time—often just a few minutes, and after that were given several impromptu questions from the judges. This fast-paced format required participants to think on their feet and adapt quickly to the situation, showcasing their agility in both speech delivery and critical thinking. The Quickfire Talk competition was one of the most unique parts of the event, as the audience eagerly watched as students navigated through the questions and organized their thoughts and making a strong impression in a limited time frame.
The final segment, Storytelling, allowed students to tap into their creative abilities. Participants were asked to craft and narrate compelling stories that would engage and entertain the audience. The power of storytelling lies in its ability to connect on an emotional level, and the students in this segment excelled at doing just that. Their stories, which are mostly personal anecdotes, captivated the audience and brought the event to life. Through their storytelling, participants displayed not only their creativity but also their ability to use language to evoke emotion and paint vivid mental images.
