[LC MALANG] Tips in IELTS Writing Task 2
In IELTS writing task 2 you have to write either a problem-solution, discussion, advantages-disadvantages, or agree-disagree essay. This can be challenging if you do not know how to approach the task. Here are some tips that might be useful for you.
1. Understand the question.
You must understand the question before making any attempt to answer it. Read the prompt carefully, so you know what the examiner is looking for. One of the biggest mistakes test takers make is not completely answering the question, and so they could not get a score higher than a band 5. To analyse the question, identify the question type: a problem-solution, discussion, advantages-disadvantages, or agree-disagree essay.
2. Plan your answer
You have word limits in IELTS writing, the word limit is there to make sure that you can deliver your idea about the topic succinctly. So, try to plan your essay before writing. Planning helps you organise your ideas and structure your essay. It also helps you write a clear and coherent essay as you know exactly what you will put in the introduction, body, and closing.
3. Pay attention to your introduction.
The introductory paragraph should tell the examiner what the rest of the essay is about and also answer the question directly.
4. Main body paragraphs
This is where you give more detail about your main answer in the introductory paragraph. In each body paragraph, start by stating your main point and support it by giving explanations and relevant examples. Each body paragraph must only contain one main point.
5. Write a conclusion
In the conclusion part, provide a summary of what is written in the essay.
