English Tutor 2020: Cheerio!

On the 6th of March, 2021, the English Tutor (ET) held its Farewell Gathering to celebrate the end of the English Tutor 2020 period. Led by Ratu Annisa and Astrid Fitriani as Master of Ceremonies (MC), the event was started at 13:30 with an opening prayer and a welcome remark by Mr Kristianus Oktriono, the Language Center Manager.

After the opening prayer, Satria (Internal Team) started with an ice-breaking game. The ET was asked to guess fictional or non-fictional persons according to a series of images provided on the screen. Following the ice-breaking game, Alma (Internal Team) led the Feedback session in which the ET can share their thoughts and evaluation toward the one-year journey as an ET. The MC continued with the announcement of the Best Tutors representing each region. The Best Tutors are Kristina Hendryka (Kemanggisan), Brandy (Alam Sutera), Felia Evangelista (Bekasi), and Hanson Mulia (Bandung).

The speaker for this year’s Farewell Gathering was Mr Abdul Aziz Turhan Kariko, or Mr Comi, a BINUS English department lecturer. Mr Comi talked about his teaching experiences in BINUS while also sharing his experiences being a part of several musical acts, such as being the bassist for the critically acclaimed band, Payung Teduh, and the metal band, Logamulia. Mr Comi also provided the ET with the necessary insights on what needs to be done to stay motivated during the COVID-19 pandemic, whether it be succeeding in our academics, career, or during our creative process.

After Mr Comi’s talk, the ET played another game, called Scattergories, followed by a sharing session between the Internal Team and the ET. The event was finished at 15:30 and was closed by a closing prayer led by the MC.

Overall, the event went as good as all of the English Tutor team had hoped. As the event has ended, a new period for the English Tutor program is going to start, with much more energy and fervour for the upcoming activities!
