The 5th INACL 2019 National Workshop: “The Development of Indonesian Corpus”
Language Center BINUS University attends the 5thINACL 2019 National Workshop on July 18, 2019. This annual workshop is hosted by Trisakti University, a collaboration program with Indonesian Association of Computational Linguistics (INACL).
The workshop addresses the current issues, practices, and products within the development of Indonesian corpus. The first plenary speaker, Dr. Dora Amalia, MS from Language Development and Fostering Agency, points out the challenges and issues in developing the online version of Great Dictionary of Indonesian Language (KBBI) as well as other local languages. The target is improving the quality, varieties, and utilization of KBBI. Additionally, the team plans to develop audio support system within the Braille version of KBBI to accommodate the visually impaired community. Further, Dyah Sulistiyorini, S.P. M.Ikom from Antara News shares the effort of archiving image and text datasets and the contribution for Indonesian corpus. In the other frame, Dr. Arbi Haza Nasution from Faculty of Engineering, Riau Islamic University presents his scientific research of developing Indonesian major local languages and direct translation tool among Indonesian local languages. Being in the field of Natural Language Processing (NLP), the research is challenged by low resources languages corpus as it is found to be scarce.
In the further session, three start-ups (prosa.ai, datasaur.ai, konvergen.ai) share their expertise in developing, maintaining and innovating tools and applications related to text datasets. The discussion covers the effective practice on how artificial intelligence (AI) in text datasets may simplify work performance such as customer service chatbot and resume builder.
In the final session, students from several universities (BINUS University, Sepuluh Nopember Insitute of Technology, and Telkom University) share their research and findings.
It is highly expected that this event may bridge the study between linguistics and AI as well as comprehending the current issue of Indonesian corpus and how it may contribute to the society.
